Shop floor & inventory
How to find a container on the shop floor
You find a container by looking up its record: last scanned location and contents. Spectr gives every container that record and lets shop staff locate and move inventory with mobile scanning.
Key facts
- “It’s by the brake” is not a location.
- Forklift time spent hunting is capacity you already paid for.
- Spectr can tell operators which container to deliver to a workstation and when.
- If two people can move a skid without scanning, your map will rot in a day.
How shops handle this
- Name containers in the system before they exist on the floor
Empty labeled skids still have IDs. - Scan on every move
From receiving to staging to return of remnants. - Look up, then walk once
The app should beat the tribal tour. - Audit the lies
If the system says Aisle 2 and it is outside, fix the habit, not only the record.
Common questions
What about outdoor storage?
Locations can be yards and trailers. Weather is not an excuse for “somewhere out back.”
Can we use existing skid tags?
Yes if they stay unique. Reused numbers across jobs are worse than no tags.
