How to tell forklift operators which skid to deliver

Forklift operators should get a system task: which container, which workstation, when — driven by the machine schedule. Spectr does that automatically so materials arrive without a chain of shouted requests.

Key facts

  • Radio dispatch does not scale past one operator who “just knows.”
  • Wrong skid at the saw is a quality event disguised as logistics.
  • Returning unused material needs a scan or the next job inherits a lie.
  • This is inventory control, not a nice-to-have WMS.

How shops handle this

  1. Put containers in the system
    No ID, no instruction.
  2. Let the schedule create the move
When a cutlist hits a machine, the delivery is implied.
  3. Scan drop-off
    The workstation location should update.
  4. Scan remnants home
Or you will reorder sheet you already own.

Common questions

We do not have a full-time forklift driver.

Then the person who moves material still scans. Role title is irrelevant.

Can we batch several deliveries?

Yes, as long as each container still has a destination. Batching is not “take whatever.”
