How to generate a bill of lading for facade shipments

A bill of lading should be generated from the shipment you actually loaded — crate counts and contents already in the shipping list. Spectr generates bills of lading and related logistics documents without assembling them by hand.

Key facts

  • A BOL typed from memory will not match the driver’s count.
  • Crate count and weight estimates are less painful when crates already exist as records.
  • Proforma invoices can come from the same shipment data.
  • The shipping dashboard should show carrier assignment next to load status.

How shops handle this

  1. Close crates first
A BOL on an open crate is a draft.
  2. Generate the BOL from the shipping list
Carrier, site, crate count — from the record.
  3. Confirm the load on the dock
Scan or count against the list, then release the truck.
  4. Keep the document with the shipment record
You will need it when something is short.

Common questions

Does this replace the carrier’s portal?

No. It replaces your blank Word BOL. Book the truck wherever you already book.

International shipments?

You may still need extra customs docs. Start from the same contents list.
