How do you migrate from spreadsheets to an ERP?
Migration is not a 15-year archaeology project on day one. Spectr onboarding is built to move awarded work onto one product record — CAD to scan — while estimating and historical files can wait. Data migration tools and support are part of that story; bring your actual objects.
Key facts
- The file that lies most often is your first target — usually the BOM or the ship list.
- Do not recreate Excel inside the ERP. If you need 40 columns, the object is missing.
- Keep Sage or Jonas. Move the product identity.
- Train on scans, not formulas.
How shops handle this
- Inventory the files that describe one job
BOM, cutlist, PO tracker, ship list, install checklist. - Pick a backbone job
Awarded, drawings in motion. - Issue from CAD, label, pack by scan
That loop teaches the shop. - Add the field last
After crate truth exists.
Common questions
What about old jobs?
Close them in Excel if you must. New awards should not go back into a blank workbook.
Can we export to Excel still?
For analysis, yes. Excel should not be the live inventory.
